Radiation Oncology

This 5,685-square-foot facility offers comprehensive radiation services, including computer-assisted therapy planning by means of the Odyssey planning system (PerMedics. Inc., San Bernardino); a Varian Clinac iX linear accelerator that delivers conventional, and intensity-modulated (IMRT) radiation therapy; and a full range of care and supporting personnel, including radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, nurses, a dietitian, and a social worker.

X-ray therapy is a process of delivering radiation in a series of doses. Treatments generally take five to seven weeks, to allow healthy tissue to recover while cancer cells are destroyed. IMRT can be used to conform the high-dose region more closely to diseased tissue.
